I haven't posted about our movie nights in a while, but they are still happening. There have been I think 2 Fridays that we have missed, but we made up for them on another night. I mainly wanted to post about what movies we watch for my own benefit. I want to try to keep track of what we have seen, because ya know, we don't want to repeat. Although MJ could watch the same movie over and over again, mommy and daddy cannot.
Let's see, I will start from last week, and then work my way back. Although they might not be in the right order. Oh well!
Sword In The Stone
An American Tale
The Muppet Movie
Bolt
The Land Before Time
Shoot! I am missing one somewhere. Hopefully it will come to me at some point!
This week is The Aristocats.
Usually we have pizza with our movie, but since we had pizza on Wednesday with our good friends Mike & Tanya, we are thinking of some other take out. Hacienda or Applebee's. My vote is for Haci!
This is the story of the Bean Counter, who fell in love with the Green Thumb, and they produced two beautiful little sprouts.

Stellan
I know some of you have seen me post about Stellan, and may be wondering why I care about a little boy I have never met. Well, click on the link I have on my blog at the right hand side of the page. You can learn all about him, and I guarantee you will fall in love with him too! In fact, Stellan's mama has many blog followers, so I know I am not the only one that cannot resist his beautiful blue eyes!

He needs prayers, so please remember him in yours today, and over the next few weeks!
Week 17 update, and an MJ update
Boy, it really seems like this pregnancy is flying by! I had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday, and today I hit the 17 week mark!
Dr's Appointment:
Blood pressure was a bit high (top number) at 140/77, but the doctor didn't make any comments about it. My blood pressure tends to be a bit high when I get there, and then it drops by the end of my appointment. Not sure why they just don't take it at the end, instead of when I first arrive. Oh well.
My weight was not good, in my opinion, but again she didn't comment on it. I gained 6 pounds since my last appointment. Maybe she knew I had been to the fair 5 times last week? :)
Baby's heart rate was 145. For those of you that believe in old wives' tales, this would indicate a BOY. Michael's heart rate was consistently in the 150's.
She went over the results of my blood work from my 12 week appointment. No Gestational Diabetes yet and my thyroid was good. So I was pleased with that. At this appointment, they drew blood for the quad screening. This screening will look for substances in my blood that may indicate a likeliness of Down's Syndrome. They usually only do this test if you are over the age of 35. I did it with my last pregnancy too. If I do not hear from them by the end of the week, then that means all levels were normal. So, no news is good news, and so far I have not heard from them!
Next appointment is August 24th, and it will include an ultrasound! They will be checking for 10 fingers and 10 toes, head circumference, looking at all the organs, and of course - taking a peek between the legs! I will definitely post pictures after that appointment!
How your baby's growing (at 17 weeks):
Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord ? her lifeline to the placenta ? is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop. Since your baby's hearing has become more finely tuned, he or she may respond to loud noises and you may feel movement at the sound of large trucks passing or a slamming door. Epidermal (skin) and fatty tissue are developing all over your baby's body to protect it after it is born and a substance called vernix is beginning to form on the skin tissue to protect it from the long exposure to amniotic fluid.

To make sure Michael is not left out:
Your 3 1/2-year-old
You have good reason to be impressed with your 3-year-old. She's a master at her puzzles, she can help with simple chores, her imagination knows no bounds, and she may even be attempting to write her own name.
Facing fears
Bedtime fears are common for preschoolers. But children can be frightened of anything from loud noises to the idea of being abandoned by Mom and Dad. This makes sense: Now that they're more independent and can leave you, they also begin to realize that you can leave them.
Magical thinking
Learning to distinguish between fantasy and reality is a gradual process. During this year, your child is at an interesting
juncture. He still practices what developmental psychologists refer to as "magical thinking," assigning traits to objects or people that are impossible but seem logical to your child's early reasoning abilities.
Can-do kid
"Look at me! Mom, look at me!" your preschooler calls as she zooms down the slide ? headfirst. Her growing bravery on the playground may make you wince sometimes, not that she notices. She loves showing off new skills. As well she should ? she's enormously proud of them.
Name writing
It's exciting when your child's scribbles begin to look more like real letters. Some threes even start writing their name, or a few letters of it. But writing is one of those developmental milestones that varies greatly from child to child. Don't stress out if your child isn't even interested in writing.
Tantrum tamers
She's 3, but still having tantrums. Although she's older, when she's upset she's every bit as emotionally primitive as she was as a toddler. (And, brace yourself ? it's not unusual for occasional tantrums to pop up through the fours and beyond.) When your child is in full-meltdown mode, don't try to reason with her, no matter how advanced her language skills are.
Pitch perfect
You might wonder if your child is headed for a future in the theater if you watch her play sometimes. Three-year-olds spend a great deal of time supplying dialogue to their dolls, imitating adults' conversations, and using different kinds of voices for different characters ? high little voices for babies and deep and powerful ones for superheroes, for example.
Grammar quirks
You thought your child had the language thing down. Now you hear him making grammatical mistakes he never seemed to make before. Don't worry. This is normal. As preschoolers pick up grammar rules, they tend to apply them in all cases. This is called over-regularization.
Ready for chores?
Three-year-olds are eager helpers. Everything ? even household chores ? looks like fun, especially if you're doing it. While you may not want your preschooler to help you chop vegetables, she's more than ready to start doing simple tasks around the house. So take advantage of her enthusiasm before she stops offering.
It's time
Children vary widely in how well they grasp time. At 3, your child may understand sequence (he did it first or last) and how long something takes (a long or short time). But concepts like the past (yesterday) and the future (tomorrow) can be murkier.
Read it again!
If you read that book about a family of dinosaurs one more time your head will explode. What can your preschooler possibly see in it? As exasperating as the repetition is for you, it's exactly what your child needs. That's how he learns.
All of these seem to be spot on for Michael!!
Congrats if you made it all the way through this post!! I promise they will not always be this long. I will probably do another age update on Michael when he hits the big 4!!
There are a few friends out there traveling this weekend, and planning lots of fun. You know who you are! Be safe, and enjoy your weekend!!

Indy Children's Museum
Friday night, we drove to Indy, so we could get up bright and early to go to the Children's Museum the next day. We had bought advance tickets to go see the King Tut exhibit that was there. Our tickets were for 9 a.m., which is before the museum opens at 10, so it was nice to be there before everyone else. Since we had just visited the Children's Museum last month, we didn't plan to spend a lot of time there. We were going to see some favorite exhibits, and then head for the zoo.
Here are a few shots from the morning.

Notice the pink wristband on his arm? That is from the fair. He refuses to let us cut it off!

Here he is, pretending to be a baby dinosaur, and playing with the eggs.

ROAR!!!!!

Stomp! Stomp!

The boy loves trains! We spent most of our time between the dinos and the trains!

"We all live in a yellow submarine!"

The rain didn't stop as soon as we had liked, so instead, we opted to go to lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe, and then walked around the Circle Center Mall. We wanted to get home at a decent time, so we left around 2pm, which of course is when the sun came out! I swear one of these days we will make it back to the zoo!

The Fair is Over!
Some people are so happy to hear that the fair is over. Now I will quit posting about all the yummy fair food, and they can stop drooling! LOL!
I am not going to bombard this post with pictures, but It is so hard to pick just a few. I think most of my blog readers are also my friends on Facebook. So if you haven't already, you may seen them there too. But here are a few of my favorites.

I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the fair this year, like we did!

16 Weeks
Here's my weekly info from BabyCenter.com
"How your baby's growing:
Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.
What your baby looks like this week:

How your life's changing:
The top of your uterus is about halfway between your pubic bone and your navel, and the round ligaments that support it are thickening and stretching as it grows. You're probably feeling a whole lot better as you settle into pregnancy, too. Less nausea, fewer mood swings, and "glowing" skin contribute to an overall sense of well-being.
Soon you'll experience one of the most wonderful moments of pregnancy ? feeling your baby move. While some women notice "quickening" as early as 16 weeks, many don't feel their baby move until about 18 weeks or more. (And if this is your first baby, don't be too impatient ? you may not be aware of your baby's movements until 20 weeks or so.) The earliest movements may feel like little flutters, gas bubbles, or even like popcorn popping. Over the following weeks they'll grow stronger and you'll be able to feel them much more frequently."

Fair Week
This week is Fair Week! It's a time we look forward to every summer! Our first time out was Saturday morning, and we had a great time! Each year, Michael goes on a few more rides. He is a kid after my own heart, and isn't scared to go on anything. Ok, well, he isn't too keen on the Ferris Wheel. We asked him if he wanted to ride it, and he said it looked too scary. Maybe one day...
There were some rides that he could not go on alone, so Mike went on most of them with him, since I am preggers. I did go on 2 with him. They were pretty low key. I must say it was hard for me to be standing on the sidelines, while the boys had most of the fun! I was surprised that MJ did not want to go on the carousel! He was too busy wanting to go on everything else! I guess it is losing it's appeal, but it used to be one of his favorites!
I took tons of pictures, but I am blogging at work right now, and I don't have the pics here. I will maybe post an entry when the fair is over, and post all of the pictures from the entire week. We are planning to go on Tuesday night for dinner, and again on Thursday to use the wristband vouchers we received from Star Fleet. It is calling for rain right now on Thursday, of course, but I am hoping that will change.
Saturday night, Mike and I had a date night. Mainly because I wanted to see Harry Potter 6, but we were also way overdue for one. We went to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for dinner, and then saw the flick. Great evening!! Grandma W. had Michael all night, and she brought him home the next morning around 10 a.m. It was so nice to have an evening to ourselves, but I have to admit, I was so happy to see my little man the next day. I miss him so much when he is not with us!! He had a great time, but I think he was happy to see his mommy too!
Sunday was lazy day. Laundry, lounging, and naps. All in all, a great weekend!!

Time with my Sweet Boy
Every Thursday, Mike goes golfing with his buddies, and Michael and I get some precious mommy & son time together. For that past few weeks though, I have not been taking full advantage of this time with him, because I was just so darn tired! But last night, we had a very enjoyable evening!
A couple of days ago, there was an article in the paper about a bear sculpture that was placed at local park. It was meant for kids to enjoy. I showed the picture to Michael, and he wanted to go see it, so I promised him that we would go on Thursday when daddy was golfing. So, I picked him up at daycare, and we headed straight there! Last year, we had gone to this park a couple of times to just walk around, and since it was a new park, it was still pretty raw. It didn't have a lot of plants or flowers, and it just barely had a path to walk around. I couldn't believe all the new improvements they have done in a year's time! We decided to call Grandma W., and ask her to come out to show her all the new additions! We also asked her to bring us some bread for the ducks - I can't believe I forgot to bring some!
So here is my sweet boy, perched on the new sculpture

It was a bit hot, from the sun beating down on it all day, so he didn't want to put his hands down. I don't blame him!
When Grandma arrived with the bread (hot dog buns), we spent quite a bit of time feeding the ducks and geese. I guess MJ was a bit hungry, because he kept eating the buns himself! Thank goodness they were not stale moldy buns, that would normally be duck food. Grandma had brought some fresh stuff!
After the birds were fed, we walked around some more, and took in more of the new scenery. It was also a great time for MJ to walk around and burn off some of his never-ending energy! After a lovely walk, we decided it was time for dinner. We said our good-byes to grandma, and headed for the golden arches! MJ said he wanted a hamburger, nuggets, and a taco. Strange kid! I ordered him his usual McNugget meal, and we headed for home. We spent the rest of the evening sitting at the dinner table, just chatting away. I love his stories, and I just love to just sit and listen to him talk. Sometimes his stories don't make sense, but that's ok. It just amazes me how his mind works, and what he comes up with!
We ended the day reading a few books, and then headed upstairs for bath and bed. About 20 minutes after I put him to bed, he came into our room, and hopped in bed with me. Mike wasn't home yet, so I let him stay in there for about 10 minutes, and then I ushered him back to his room. I snuggled there with him until I knew he was about to fall asleep, and I slipped away.
I know to most, it doesn't seem like our evening was too exciting, but to me, it was the best. I keep thinking how we do not have many more chances to just be the 2 of us. I already have this tremendous guilt that my attention will not be on him 100%. Soon he will have to share my attention with the new baby. I hope I can find time to still make him feel special, and he will not feel pushed aside. I mean, he has been our only child for almost 4 years now, and I really worry about how this is going to affect him! He's our baby! OK, I need to stop before I get all choked up.
Next Thursday we are planning to hit the fair. I know he will enjoy that, and so will I. Fair food here we come!!

15 Weeks
From my weekly e-mails that I receive from BabyCenter.com:
"Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam."
I love these little e-mails. It amazes me though, that the baby is only the size of an apple, as my belly looks like the baby is more the size of a cantaloupe!
I have noticed this week, that I am starting to look more pregnant, and not just like I am gaining a lot of weight. I am starting to get an actual bump out front! I am sure people that do not know I am pregnant are still on the fence as to whether to ask me about it or not. My neighbors do not know, as we have not had a chance to chat with them in months! We are all so busy, that all we seem to do is wave "hi" to each other as we are getting in and out of our cars. I am sure when August rolls around, we will all start to have more openings in our schedules, and be able to hang at home more.
I lot of people are asking how I am doing...how I am feeling. Well, I feel great! I was blessed to go through both pregnancies with little to no morning sickness. I mean, I had a few cases where I would feel nauseous, but it would be because of a smell, or someone talking about something that just turned my stomach. But so far, I have no actual SICKNESS. With Michael, the only thing that was sure to get my stomach turning was a Taco Bell commercial, advertising their new spicy chicken burritos and tacos. The commercial would show a pot full of shredded spicy chicken, and a mystery hand would start stirring it. Blech! I now love spicy chicken tacos, but man, I had to change the channel every time that commercial aired.
This pregnancy, it is another commercial that gets to me. This time it is a Wendy's commercial, for their new boneless wings - specifically, when they cut into the sweet 'n' spicy Asian chicken. OMG, just thinking about it now makes me feel not so good.
Another thing that has been a struggle for me has been brushing my teeth. With both pregnancies, teeth brushing makes me gag. I dread brushing my teeth everyday!
I felt a lot of exhaustion in the first trimester, and now I am finally starting to get past that. Now I am happy to not collapse on the couch every night when I get home from work!
My next appointment is July 28th, and I am hoping that the ultrasound will be up next! My 20 week appointment would be around August 25th, but I am hoping to maybe get my ultrasound earlier than that! I cannot wait to find out if we have a healthy baby boy or girl in there!

Hello 2nd Trimester!
Today marks the first official day of my second trimester! I am so relived and excited! Although the coming of the second trimester does not guarantee a problem-free pregnancy, it does start a huge drop in the percentages!
This is a time where most pregnant women are hopeful to see the initial symptoms of pregnancy disappear. I am happy to say that I did not have a huge problem with morning sickness. However, brushing my teeth is another story. It makes me gag every.single.time. Ugh! I hope that passes soon!
I did, and still do, have a problem with exhaustion. I am fine in the morning, but somewhere around 2 pm, I start to fade. By the time I get home from work, I do not want to cook dinner, or lift a finger to do anything. This is evident by the condition of the house, and the many grilled meals (thanks, Mike!) So, please, do not drop by unexpected, unless you don't mind seeing our disaster area! LOL! I find myself in bed every night by 8:30, and asleep shortly after that. I am hoping the second trimester brings some life back to me!
Because I had Gestational Diabetes when I was pregnant with Michael, my doctor ordered me to be tested early for it this time. It does not normally appear in pregnancies until around your 28th week. But I guess I am not normal! I took the 1 hr Glucose Tolerance Test on Tuesday, and I failed. My levels needed to be 135 or below, and I was at 146. Not horrible, but enough that I have to go back for the 3 hr test. That will be taking place next Thursday. The best part? I get to load up on carbs Mon-Wed! The worst part? Drinking that nasty glucola, and not being able to eat from 8:30 Wednesday night until 11:30 am the next day. I am hoping and praying that I pass!!
So, anyway...Happy 2nd trimester to me!!

Thomas and Indy
We had a VERY full weekend! I took the day off on Friday, and took MJ to Connersville & Indy for a couple of days of fun! Connie and mom joined me, and we set off bright and early, heading to Connersville first. Our destination? A Day Out With Thomas the Train!

We had gone to this event last year too, in Flint, MI, and it was a blast! We were hoping for the same this year. Well, I was a bit disappointed. First of all, it was blazing hot! Secondly, the railroad that was hosting the event was just not up to snuff. It was small, and all of the activity tents were set up in a huge asphalt parking lot. Asphalt and 90 degree heat made for one miserable mama! But Michael had fun, and that was the whole point, right? His favorite was the tent that had a bunch of train tables set up inside. He refused to leave that tent, and we had to literally drag him out of there screaming!

We ended the day with a ride on Thomas! Last year, MJ fell asleep on the train, but he stayed awake this time! He had fun riding with Aunt Connie!

Here are a few more pics from the day!

Like I said, I liked Flint much better than this location, but MJ still loved it!
After our Day Out With Thomas, we headed to Indy. We had a hotel reserved downtown, close to the zoo or the museum, depending on what we decided to do. It really was going to depend on the weather. We ordered up some Hot Box Pizza, and settled down for the night.
Since the weather was supposed to be in the 90's again on Saturday, we (ok, I) opted for the museum. I just couldn't tolerate that heat again! I think it was a great choice! MJ loved it! There was so much to see and do there! The King Tut exhibit was there, but we skipped that. I have tickets for that later in July, so Mike and I are planning to take MJ back there for that, and hopefully hit the zoo at that time!
Anyway, instead of bombarding this post with all the pictures of the fun stuff we did, I will just post my favorite. I will try to post the rest on Facebook later! This picture was on the carousel. Notice the silver bracelets on his arms? We made those in the Egypt area, and MJ thought they were bands like Hercules wears, and they made him strong! He had to have one for each arm! Silly kid!

We made it home Saturday in time for dinner, and loved on daddy a bunch. We spent quite a while recapping all we did to him, and it amazed me how much Michael remembered! What a fun time!
We ended the weekend at the pool with Grandma and Grandpa Kissel. Boy, does MJ love the pool! He puts on his wings and tube, and swims all over the place!

He even jumps off the diving board by himself!

He keeps telling us he wants his own pool at home. Well, maybe someday....
This concludes our weekend recap! With the holiday weekend approaching, I am sure I will have another post full of fun stuff! We can't wait to see our family from Texas! YEEHAW!! Have a great holiday!
