Our big dog, Hercules, is a little under the weather these days! It all started a few weeks ago, when he started to stumble when he was walking. It was like his legs just gave out on him, and he would drop to a sitting position, or end up laying down. But he would always bounce back. Then last week, he was in the back yard, chasing a rabbit, and he took a hard fall. Very hard. He was running next to the house, and Mike was inside, and Mike actually heard and felt the boom when Herc fell against the house. After that, he had a very hard time walking. Then Thursday, he somehow ended up in the kitchen area, and lost his footing, and couldn't stand back up. It happened in the middle of the night, and I woke up to hearing his claws scratching on the floor. I found him sprawled out on his belly, and his paws were just slipping and sliding on the floor as he tried to stand. I have no idea how long he had been "stuck," but he was panting very hard, and was visibly exhausted. I woke up Mike, and it took both of us to get him to the carpet, where he managed to get to his feet, and then he just collapsed. We stayed up with him for a little while, and when we thought he was doing better, we headed back to bed.
The next morning, he wasn't doing very well, so I decided to get him into the vet first thing. Boy, was that a challenge!! Trying to get 200 pounds of nearly dead weight into the back of my Escape was no easy feat! Mike and his employee, Bryan, had to pretty much lift him in. Then when I got to the vet, I had to have 2 of the employees there drag him out. After the vet decided that he needed x-rays, I left him there for the day. They were going to sedate him in order to get the scans, and also treat a toenail that had been ripped out in his struggles to get to his feet. Boy guy! He had been through hell!
Later that afternoon, they let me know that he was done, and he was resting, and that we could bring him home. But they found severe arthritis in his spine, and some in his hips too. His hips were also "loose" indicating that there was not enough muscle back there to help keep them in place. Mike was questioning whether to bring him home, because if he didn't improve, we would obviously have to make the sad decision to put him down, and transporting him back and forth in his condition is awful for him and for us. But we brought him home, we are giving him anti-inflammatory meds, walking him down our small dead end street a couple of times a day, and have seen a tiny bit of improvement. He is better than he was on Friday morning, but he is still stumbling, and wobbly, and can't stay on his feet for long. I am afraid it is taking a toll on his front legs now, as they are his main support.
The vet called today to see how he was doing, and unfortunately, we are not seeing as good of an improvement as she would like. Plus, he is not eating. I managed to get him to take some food while he was laying down, thinking he just couldn't take standing at his dish long enough to eat. He ate about a half a bowl of food, and that was it. So, she is considering changing his meds to see if that helps, and she suggested putting some broth or dog food gravy on his food to entice him to eat. I am still waiting to hear back from her on the change in meds.
Mike and I are afraid that our big dog's days are numbered. A Saint has a typical life span of 8-10 years, and he is now 7. I know I joked about wanting him gone, but now that it seems things are going downhill for him, I feel bad for our big guy! I definitely do not like seeing him suffering! I will update as more is known.
This is the story of the Bean Counter, who fell in love with the Green Thumb, and they produced two beautiful little sprouts.

African Safari!
On Saturday, Mom, Connie, and I took MJ to Port Clinton, OH, to the African Safari Wildlife Park. Man, was that a lot of fun! We first drove our vehicle through the property, just like a real African Safari. The animals came right up to the car, stuck their heads in the windows, and wanted carrots! I think we went through a cup of feed, and 3 bags of carrots.

After we drove through, there was a park that was like a mini-zoo. They had monkeys, birds, warthogs, kangaroos, camels, ponies, and wils cats. There was also some pig races, and a playground.
Here we are, waiting for the pig races to start. Our pig was named "Dale Swinehart, Jr."

And they're off! Our pig kept coming in second place.

At the playground

I think one of Michael's favorite moments of the day was getting to hold a snake, and getting his picture taken with it! He wasn't afraid at all! Brave boy!!

This was sooo much fun, and easily done in one day. I hope we go back again!!

21 Weeks
"Your baby this week:
The baby is getting bigger and continues to practice for life outside the uterus. This week your baby has fully developed eyelashes and eyebrows and the hair on your baby's head is continuing to grow as her brain begins a rapid growth process. The fetus has fully formed fingerprints and loud noise can wake up the baby. She may begin kicking and turning around, too. Your baby's heartbeat can be heard with a stethoscope. Her nose is taking on a more defined shape as cartilage (the soft bone) appears. Your baby is approximately 30-32 cm (12.2 inches) and weighs about one pound."
I am still feeling great! Feet are getting a little tired if I am on them all day. I am feeling her move around quite a bit now, but it mostly feels like heads butts, instead of kicks.
No, we have not decided on a name yet. *sigh* The first one (MJ) was so easy. We thought we had a name all figured out, but I guess my tastes have change since 4 years ago! We will clue you all in when a decision is made!

I'm going to try to keep taking pictures in this same shirt. However, it's not a maternity shirt, so we will see how long it lasts!

20 weeks!
To say I am excited is an understatement! We made it halfway!! Ya!!! Ultrasound is first thing Monday morning, and we can't wait to find out what we have cooking in there!
Here is my weekly baby update:
How your baby's growing:
Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel ? the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom ? the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)
He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).
Your baby is still pretty active and continues to move all over in the amniotic fluid. However, towards the end of this trimester the baby will begin to settle, usually in a head down position. Your baby is beginning to show evidence of eyebrows and eyelashes and the hair on his scalp is much more visible. He wakes and sleeps in regular intervals, similar to what a newborn would do. This may be apparent to you by his movement patterns. He regularly ingests and absorbs large quantities of the amniotic fluid and excretes urine.
Here is what baby looks like right now:

140 days down, 140 to go!
I have been feeling great! Well, besides having constant heartburn. I swear even water gives me heartburn! I had it with MJ too, so I expected it. But if that is the worse thing to happen, I can handle it! Tums and Zantac are my friends!

Boy or Girl?
time to go over there and participate in the poll on the right hand side. It's just for fun. The poll is open until August 24 at 8:15 am, exactly one hour before the big ultrasound. Who will be right??
Weekend Update
This Friday's movie was "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." Michael lost interest after about an hour, but I did not remember that movie being 2 hours long! Maybe when they aired it on the Sunday night Wonderful World of Disney, they edited it down a bit. Anyway, he didn't sit that long, although he did enjoy it up to that point. Any movie with catchy songs and cars in it will be a hit with him!
This weekend turned into a weekend of home repairs. It started early this week, when Mike cleaned out Nemo's fish tank. A few of the pebbles ended up down the garbage disposal, and well, pebbles + garbage disposal = disaster. Needless to say, we needed a new one. So that was weekend project number 1. We hoped to get out and purchase a new one this weekend. As it turned out, we didn't need to. I will get to that later.
Saturday we had a very nice visit with Jennifer and Jace. Man, is he growing so fast, and getting cuter every time I see him! He is 6 months old today! Happy 1/2 birthday, little man! Anyway, we had a nice lunch with them, and an even nicer time just hanging out and catching up. I even had the chance to feed Jace some green beans. That boy loves him some green beans, and he gobbled them down in record time. I was a bit rusty, and he had a messy face when I was done, but thank goodness for wet wipes!
After we said our good-byes to Jen, and she headed on to her next destination, we loaded up the car and headed to Grandma & Grandpa K's for a little swimming. The pool was perfect, and we had a great time. Well, that was until MJ hurt his foot. After jumping into the water from the side of the pool, he came up screaming. SCREAMING. We thought maybe a bee stung him right before he jumped, but after he calmed down a bit, he was able to tell us that he hit his foot. It took us a while to figure out that he hit his foot at the bottom of the pool, since he jumped in at the shallow end. He was done after that. So, we got out of the pool, and dried off, and loved on our little guy for a while. We were beginning to think he broke his foot, because he limped around the rest of the night, and was limping around yesterday too. But today he seems to be back to norm. Thank goodness!
Ok, so back to the home repairs. While we were swimming, Mike was talking guy talk with his dad, and it turns out that they had an extra garbage disposal that they let us take off their hands. I guess they had one on their old sink, and it didn't fit their new sink after they remodeled their kitchen, and they had hung onto it. Someone else's trash was our treasure! Well, it wasn't really trash, because they had only had it for about 3 months before they got their new sink. Thanks mom and dad!
Ok, so Sunday morning, Mike decided to start on his garbage disposal project. He heads out to the garage, and hits the button to open the overhead door, so he can get the disposal out of his truck that is parked in the driveway. From inside the house, I hear loud, not so pretty noises. Mike comes back in the house a short time later to inform me that the chain snapped off the garage door, and hit my car. Mike's pissed about the door, and I am concerned about my poor car. We manage to get my car out of the garage, and Mike heads to the "man store" to buy a new garage door opener. I survey my car, and yep, it's damaged. *sigh* That poor car needs so much work now, it makes my head spin thinking about it. Good thing it is paid off!
Mike comes back from the man store, and started to install the new opener, now project number 2. Only, he soon discovers that the real reason the chain snapped off is because the springs broke. Great. Now we have to call in the professionals. But he still went ahead and installed the opener, because, well it was old and only a matter of time before it burned up on us too, so what the heck? Why not?
It is kind of ironic (is that the right word?) that this whole thing happened on Sunday. We were supposed to have some guy come out on Saturday to replace the actual garage door, but he never showed up. So we can't help but wonder if we had this guy put on the new, lighter door on Saturday, if the springs wouldn't have failed. Or maybe they would have eventually, but maybe the springs would have snapped when we were coming home, and the cars would not have been in the garage at the time, and my car wouldn't have been damage. What if.... But the loser garage door guy is another story for another day.
Mike did eventually get to the disposal project, and I managed to do a little home improvement myself. I changed out the toilet seat in the bathroom downstairs, project number 3. Big deal, right? Well, it was something, and I was proud of it. We changed out the old clunky seat with one of those seats that closes slowly. We already had one upstairs in the hallway bath, but we needed it downstairs too for MJ. It was too heavy for him to lift and lower without banging it. So he eventually stopped trying to close it. That didn't go over well with mommy. So, now he thinks it is cool to watch it go down, and mommy is happy to have the seat down again! Now if I could just train daddy! LOL!
Other than the home repairs, I managed to complete the laundry, and catch up on the checkbook, which was 3 months behind. So, I felt like we managed to accomplish a lot, and still fit in some fun time. Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!!

How your baby's growing:
Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.

Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom ? about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

Cloth diapers
When Michael was born, I tried my hand at cloth diapers. It is amazing how far cloth diapers have come since the good ol' days! I really liked them, however, if I wanted Mike to help with changing diapers, I couldn't use them exclusively.
Anyway, I want to use them again with the new baby, so I decided to add to my stash. Luckily I just received an e-mail about a sale on some that I like! Here is the link, in case you want to know what I am talking about. http://www.softclothbunz.com/bumGenius-Deluxe-All-In-One-Diaper_p_190.html
Then there is this contest to win some more!

Sorry, shameless plug. But I know some of you out there have small babies, and are into being "green" so I thought I would pass it along!

Weekend in review
Whew! I hope that heat is done, and we go back to more near normal temps! That is brutal for a preggo!
On Saturday, we woke up bright and early as usual, and headed off to the grocery store. We had just enough time to do that, then get home to put the groceries away before heading off for the boys' haircuts. I am pretty disappointed in MJ's haircut. I told the gal, "I want to leave his bangs alone, nice and long, but trim up the rest." Well, she hacked his bangs anyway, and I am DONE with that place! They are cheap cuts, and they NEVER listen to me. DONE.
After the haircuts, we headed next door for some lunch, which has been a tradition for us. Yum!
Once home again, MJ headed to his room for some rest time, and well, mommy and daddy had some rest time too. I was able to play my Wii for a bit, but that ended when Michael decided he was done "napping" and he came downstairs and took it over. Oh well. It allowed me to finish up some laundry and pack his bag for his overnite stay with Grandma.
At around 6, we headed out to our "grown up" party :), dropping MJ off at Grandma and Grandpa's along the way. We had a great time celebrating Gavin, and his officially and permanently becoming Dustin and Jessica's son. Thanks for the great time guys. It was a successful party, as usual! You guys are the best, and we are so excited for you!
We headed home around 10ish. My feet were killing me, and I was ready for my bed. You know, I love my son to pieces, but it was nice for Mike and I to have the house to ourselves for the night. We took advantage of it! ;) It was also nice not being woke up at 6 am, or in the middle of the night to ward off stray monsters! LOL!
Sunday was lazy day. I was going to go to a family reunion, but it was just too hot. So Grandma and Grandpa W. took MJ there, while Mike and I stayed cool in the house. MJ had a blast!! The house where the reunion was held had a swimming pool, and he spent the entire time in it!. That boy sure loves to swim!
So that is about it. Hope everyone had a great weekend. It was so nice to see so many of our friends Saturday night. Can't wait to do it again sometime soon! Mike keeps saying he wants to do something at our house, so we'll see how that goes! I will keep ya'll posted!

Butterfly!
This morning, we found a butterfly on the driveway. The only thing I could grab quick was my phone, so excuse the blurs.

*disclaimer: No butterfly was harmed in the making of these photos. Shortly after the last picture was taken, the creature took flight, and landed in a tree, safely out of harms way!

Pizza and a Movie
Last night's move was "An American Tale: Fievel Goes West" It was a good movie. Michael laughed out loud several times, which is always music to our ears! I love his laugh, and never get tired of hearing it!

18 weeks!
How your baby's growing:
Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and he weighs almost 7 ounces. He's busy flexing his arms and legs ? movements that you'll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. His blood vessels are visible through his thin skin, and his ears are now in their final position, although they're still standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves, a process that will continue for a year after he's born. If you're having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If you're having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, but he may hide them from you during an ultrasound.

I am 18 weeks today. Day number 126, 154 days left, and I am 45% of the way there!!

17 Week pic
This is the first pic I have taken so far. I was always one of those people who thought it would be neat to take a picture once a month of my pregnancy. Well, when at 1 month, 2 months, and 3 months, I just thought I was getting more chubby. There really wasn't a baby bump. So I didn't like any picutures of me. Well, this month (I am a week late!) I think I am finally looking pregnant. I will try to do this once a month from now on!
