Allison at 17 months

Another month down, and not a whole lot has changed.  The biggest difference has been her language.  She has become quite the parrot!  She has many words that she can say all on her own, but she has also started repeating random words she hears.  Some of them become a permanent part of her vocabulary, while others she forgets.  The one word that has been recurring a lot this past month is balloon.  She pronounces it "balloo."  Another favorite of hers is bird, which she says like "bur."  I swear if there is a bird within 50 yards of us, she spots it, points, and says "bur!"

This weekend, she was cracking me up!  On one ocassion I was in the kitchen doing something, I don't remember what, and she comes toddling in.  She looks up at me and starts babbling on and on and on, and then she stopped to wait for a response from me.  So I nod at her, and said, "Ok, Allie."  Then she smiled or laughed and turned and walked away, I guess satifised with my answer.  She did this at random times throughout the weekend.  Boy, I sure wish I could understand her, because she always seems to be excited about telling me whatever it is.  It's like she discovered something new, and she had to tell me about it right away.  I pretend I understand, and she seems to be ok with that.

No new teeth.  She is still holding steady at seven.  4 on top, 3 on bottom.  I can't believe she is still missing that fourth tooth on the bottom!  Her little smile has been lopsided for quite some time without it.  I keep thinking I see it coming, but then nothing.

It always brings a smile to my face when we are around people that comment about how sweet our little girl is.  I smile not just because I feel proud of her, but because I know she is not always so sweet.  Although I agree them, most people do not get to see her darker side!  I explained in her 16-month post about her tantrums, and she still has them.   But the majority of the time they are usually the fall to the ground, face down, and crying and kicking type of tantrums.  What is new this month though, is when we walk away from her to ignore her, she will get up, find one of us, and throw herself to the ground again.  Like, how dare you walk away!  Can't you see I want attention!  It's almost comical, you know, if it weren't for that high pitched cry/screaming she does.

Most of her tantrums happen when we are trying to remove her from a situation, like her getting into something she shouldn't, or trying to go somewhere she shouldn't, or not giving her something she wants.  Or it could be from Michael taking one of his toys away from her, or Michael touching her, or Michael doing whatever she feels he shouldn't be.  Poor Michael.  He wants his sister to play with him so bad, but she doesn't quite understand how to play like he wants her to.  She can't play with walkie talkies, ball, swords, guns, board games, video games, or army men.  The only thing she really likes to do with him is chasing, or hide-n-seek, or let's see who can be the loudest.  That last one is my personal favorite.  NOT.  I keep telling Michael that one day she will love playing with him, and hopefully he will still want her to play with him at that point.

Her favorite book right now is "Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?"  She will find that book in a stack of other books and will brings it to me to read to her.  Just that book.  Over and over and over and over.  Oh, and she has to be the one to turn the pages, otherwise, see the paragraph above.  But her turning the pages makes it challenging when she turns them before you are done reading what is on that page.  But that is the fun of it to her.  Because it causes mommy to have to read extra fast.

"BrownbearbrownbearwhatdoyouseeIseearedbirdlookingatmeredbirdredbirdwhatdoyouseeIseea..."

She thinks that is absolutely hysterical, and so does her big brother if he is within ear shot.  I enjoy the laughter, but would love it if we could change it up now and then.  I would even be up for "Polar bear, Polar Bear, What do you hear?"  Ah, Good times.  Michael had a book that he loved like that too.  It was a book we bought in the gift shop at the resort we stayed at in Jamaica.  It was Elmo's Little Playhouse.  We still have it, but it is in pretty bad shape, and doesn't get much attention these days.  Darn.  Maybe we need to accidently on purpose lose Brown Bear?  Or it could meet some sort of tragic end?  I kid, of course.  Or maybe not.

Her hair is getting so long!  Remember the picture I posted in her 16-month update?  No?  Well, here it is if you need a refresher.

That was the first time I put her hair in the "pebbles" pony tail.  Since she won't keep a barrette or headband in her hair, this seemed to work.  She kept it in all day, and she didn't try to pull it out.  Well, I sent her to "school" the next Monday, and the pony tail didn't stay in.  Bummer.  We were told that another little girl pulled it out, so I tried it again another day.   It still didn't make it, but this time Allie pulled it out herself.  I gave up after that, and didn't try again until last week.  It made it to the end of the day!  It looked like there was an attempt made at pulling it out, but it was still there!  I had her with a pony tail in her hair all this past weekend, and other than stopping her from pulling it out a few times, she left it alone.

She probably needs to get her hair cut at this point, but I just can't.  I am not sure how long I will be able to let her hair go before it get cuts, but I am holding out as long as I can!

Without further ado, here is little Miss Thing today!  (Sporting no hair accessories)
